​ It's concert season in Byrd School!
All of the students have been working steadily on preparations for the upcoming concerts.  ​The students are very excited to perform for you and your families.  This year, we will host 2 performances in our school. 
     The first will take place on May 24th which the 4th and 5th grade students will perform.  This performance will include a variety of performances from the Recorder Club, String Ensemble, Band, Morning Chorus and the Combined Chorus.  The performance will begin at 7 pm. 
     If your child is performing, please read the attachment.  It will give you information on all of the particulars, such as wardrobe, when and where to meet.
      The second of the performances will take place on June 3rd at 9am.  The performers will be the Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade students.  Wardrobe is easy......comfortable clothes!

Kindergarten Orientation set for June 2 - Please save the date
Kindergarten Orientation set for June 2 - Please save the date
 Orientation for all children registered to enter Glen Rock Public Schools kindergarten in the fall of 2016 will be held on Thursday, June 2.   From 8:30-9 a.m. all parents will meet with their respective principals and HSA leadership. Following that, four sessions are planned – from 9-9:45 a.m., 10-10:45 a.m., 1-1:45 p.m. and 2-2:45 p.m.  –  when children will meet with the kindergarten teachers. Families are asked to please plan ahead to attend these important introductory events.
Letters from the elementary principals will be sent to all registered families on or about Monday, May 16, noting the child’s school building and orientation session assignments. Any incoming kindergartner who is registered on or before June 1 will be included in orientation.
Families who register their child after that date will receive placement notification in mid- to late August.  Registration packets for all students needing to register with the district  may be downloaded from the district’s website at www.glenrocknj.orgunder the Parents/Students tab. Completed packets should be delivered to the Glen Rock Board of Education Office, located at the rear of the Glen Rock High School/Middle School campus.

Language Arts Summer Enrichment

This summer the Glen Rock Community School is offering several programs to inspire young writers and encourage young readers. Please visit the links below for more information. These are limited-enrollment programs – early registration is highly recommended!

Reader’s Clubhouse, for students entering Grades 1-2 and 3-5. Students at all reading levels will enjoy this opportunity to share – or develop – their love of reading with their peers. Click here.
Rock Solid Reading Foundations, for students entering Grades 1-2. The newest addition to our Language Arts summer enrichment, Rock Solid provides students with engaging, phonics-based classroom instruction focused on specific areas of need. Click here.

See Something – Say Something
Homeland Security See Something – Say Something campaign is a way for the everyday citizen to assist authorities to maintain safety. "If You See Something, Say Something™" is a national campaign that raises public awareness of the indicators of terrorism and terrorism-related crime, as well as the importance of reporting suspicious activity to state and local law enforcement.
To report suspicious activity, contact your local law enforcement agency. Describe specifically what you observed, including:
  • Who or what you saw;
  • When you saw it;
  • Where it occurred; and
  • Why it's suspicious.
If there is an emergency, call 9–1–1.
